Stephen Wiltshire

Stephen Wiltshire is an amazing autistic artist from the UK. He has a remarkable photographic memory; after looking at a cityscape for only a few minutes, he is able to accurately draw the entire view. Truly amazing stuff! Stephen will be visiting Sydney shortly - can’t wait to see the results.

iPhone search V Google search

Yes, yes, yes, we at WhiteRhino are jumping on the iPhone bandwagon, but how can you ignore it? With the iPhone uptake growing at such a rapid rate and over 140,000 apps now available in iTunes store, the mind boggles to think of how many there will be 12 months from now considering it was only 25,000 in March ‘09. As an iPhone fan and a frequent user of iPhone Apps, I am starting to think a little differently when it comes to searching for content. Particularly when I’m on the move and accessing information, I’m finding my search behaviour is starting to change.

Bubble wrap calendar

bubble_calendar

I came across this Bubble Wrap Calendar – each day  you pop the bubble over the day’s date. Sounds like lot of fun, but personally, I just couldn’t resist having a good pop the moment I received it.

Tea and coffee colour matching guide

Picture and concept from www.suck.uk.com

For a long-term tea drinker like myself, this is one of the best and most practical ideas around. These cups have a colour matching guide to help you make the perfect cup of tea or coffee. No more weak tea with not enough milk, I’ll have a Classic British, thanks! It really takes the biscuit!

Semi-Permanent Melbourne 2009

Semi Permanent Melbourne

It’s sometimes nice to step away from the studio for a little while and find out what’s going on in the outside world. In Semi-Permanent’s first Melbourne foray, the audience was offered a keen insight into what creatives the world over are doing.

I attended the Friday session, where speakers varied from local design studios and photographers, to international artists and directors. Despite the differing disciplines, each speaker was united in their love for their craft. It was inspiring to see industry heavyweights and relative newcomers alike exuding such amazing passion.

New ‘demonstration layout’ trains

Demonstration Layout Train

Images from Connex.

A designer can’t stop thinking like a designer. It’s not something that can be switched off, and almost anything can set it off – hence, this morning, when I stepped on the train and noticed something unusual, I was intrigued and began keenly observing.

This morning’s train was one of Connex’s new ‘demonstration layout’ trains and I was eager to see how they would work. Personally, I like them quite a lot – there’s more foot space, and they certainly feel more spacious around the doorways. Unfortunately, the train wasn’t packed like a sardine can, and as such the new layout wasn’t put to the test, but I’m eagerly awaiting the next time I get that train again.

Camberwell Markets: Some weekend inspiration

Clockwise from top left: 1980s New Idea magazines, tiger statue, crowds at the Markets, paper races dress at Riot Art.

On Sunday, I headed out to the Camberwell Markets to meet with friends, hunt for bargains and voyeuristically fossick through the belongings of strangers.

A designer’s next inspiration could come from anywhere – a conversation, an object, a place – hence, the Camberwell Markets have plenty to offer someone willing to soak it up!

Although, I didn’t come away with much (a $2 cardigan), I met a lot of interesting people and found some amazing stuff.
