Behind the scenes of our Christmas Card

xmas_rhino

Merry Christmas from the team at WhiteRhino. As the lights go out on 2009, WhiteRhino would like to wish you all the best for the festive season and the new year. We are all on a break as of 23 December 2009, and we’ll be bright, charged and ready to go on 11 January 2010. See you then!

Some of you may have received our Christmas Card over the last few days. Here, we reveal exactly what went into the making of the beast that is the light-up rhino.

Firstly, I’d like to dispel some rumours - yes, it’s real. I painstakingly spent hours carefully laying the lights on our wireframe rhino (not to mention sourcing the lights), and the boys took him out to the depths of suburbia to be let loose in his native environment. Thank you to Gary Gross for the photography.

Rhino shortbread

xmas_shortbread

Following on with the Rhino food theme this Christmas, I made WhiteRhino shortbread as a special treat for the boys to say thank you for being such lovely work colleagues!

Rhino pizzas

xmas_pizza

As a special Christmas treats for our lucky clients, we had these custom hand-made Rhino Chocolate pizzas made. Each rhino was individually stencilled in hundred and thousands onto the white chocolate base, and it was all finished off with a border of bananas and strawberry and cream lollies. Yum!

Thank you to Just Sweets for being up for the challenge.

Not thinking when you need to be a thinker.

At the end of our online form, we have a simple button – “Keep me informed”. On the surface, it is simple. It simply means would you – the design graduate, the potential employee, the person wanting experience, the illustrator extraordinaire, the hot new designer - like to be kept informed and up to date with what’s going on at WhiteRhino.

But are they really interested in WhiteRhino? Will they do whatever it takes to get their foot in the door, to portray an edge, to get noticed or simply a response. NO, we are not selling your details to a foreign telecommunications company – we are simply seeing if they are interested in the brand WhiteRhino.  Because, by definition, they are wanting WhiteRhino to take an interest in them! So what kind of message does that suggest when someone ticks the box that says ‘NO! I don’t want to be kept informed’. It says to us, they are really not that interested.

Some people just don’t think, and in this game, you must be a thinker! So we hit ‘delete email’.

Monthly Update

Another busy month at WhiteRhino, with a number of new enquiries, proposals, pitches, strategic creative discussions and production development for both print and web. In recent months we saw the Smart Water Fund launch a new website designed and developed by WhiteRhino utilising a customised website CMS solution. This month WhiteRhino and Melbourne’s three water retailers launched a new website for the Toilet Replacement Program in support of the Victorian Government Target 155 Save Our Water initiative. For the first time South East Water, City West Water and Yarra Valley Water joined together to launch a unified website specifically designed for customers to upgrade their single flush toilets to dual flush with savings of up to 35% off the RRP, not to mention the 35,000 litres per year savings on water usage.

Leroy the Rhino

rhino

This is the extremely temperamental yet beauitiful ‘Leroy’. An amazing animal who became our ‘hero talent’ for our new stationery launch material and website imagery. Leroy is nearly 50 years old and lives alone and peacefully in the back paddocks on the Werribee open plain zoo, out of public view. He’s now a little too grumpy to co-exist with the other rhino social groups, yet his size makes him a truly spectacular specimen he is – all 2 1/2 tonnnes of him.
